If you read my blog a lot, you’ll have heard me mention Charli Cohen a few times, normally with regards to exercise and Skinny Bitch Collective. I first met Charli via Twitter – I know, the digital ways of the world today! – and we became friends through our mutual love of all things fitness, fashion and health.
This month has been an extremely exciting one for Charli, as she launched her new luxe sportswear VIS collection (with backing from Lycra) with a press event in London. Sadly, due to the London tube and the circle line in particular, I couldn’t make the event, which left me pretty gutted. This means I haven’t got any first hand photos for you, but Charli kindly sent me a few from the event and I’ll obviously be sharing photos of her awesome collection with you too.
Now for a little bit of history on Charli herself and how the sportswear brand came about…
Graduating as Womenswear student of the year from Kingston University London in 2012, Charli’s graduate collection saw her shortlisted as a finalist for numerous awards including the Lycra Future Designers Award at the WGSN Global Fashion Awards, the Gold and Womenswear Awards at Graduate Fashion Week and the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award.
Qualifying as a personal trainer alongside her fashion degree, Charli uses her background in sports science to create ergonomic, high-performance sportswear. However, her fashion-oriented approach refuses to sacrifice style for function, resulting in transitional pieces that work equally well with both trainers and heels. Always good in my opinion!
The VIS Collection bridges the gap between sportswear and ready-to-wear, throwing effortless, oversized outerwear pieces over ergonomically panelled, technical baselayers. The silhouette is irrefutably sport- luxe, yet doesn’t compromise sport-performance. Key pieces include the panelled ‘Laser Leggings’ and ‘Dynamo Bra’, the oversized ‘Voltage Sweatshirt’ and the statement ‘Voltage Tee’. With prices starting from £105, each garment is precision manufactured in the UK, the fabrics combining state-of-the-art performance technology with a super-luxe, soft-touch feel.
