Why I Love To Bend It On The Beach

This month I’ve partnered with online retailer Surfdome to spread the love of the new summer bikini campaign, which I love as I can share my favourite beach yoga bikini photos with you. What I love about this is it’s not about just putting on a pretty bikini and sitting by the pool (as lovely as that sounds!), Surfdome is championing getting active in your bikini, so for me, it’s all about beach yoga and meditation.

As part of this collaboration and my love of yoga on the beach, I wanted to share some helpful little tips with you when it comes to beach yoga and share my favourite beach yoga bikini selection with you.

I’ve been lucky enough to do beach yoga a few times this year already, and even though it does come with a few niggles, it’s still so amazing. You don’t need to be on a fancy yoga retreat or fitness holiday to experience how great it is, just pop on your bikini, take yourself down to the beach, roll out your mat and breathe. If you like the sound of that, here are a few things to think about:

SUN, SEA & SAND

Sounds amazing, right? No matter how early in the morning or late in the evening, make sure you wear sun lotion. When you’re in the moment, flowing your way through poses, you’ll forget about the sunshine and the last thing you want is to end up with burnt shoulders. Another thing to note is the sand… it WILL get everywhere! The slightest breeze will carry it around your body without you even releasing, so give your ears a good clean out after! 😉

AT ONE WITH NATURE

One of my favourite things about doing yoga on the beach is the experience of sound that comes with it. You can hear the waves lapping at the shore, the birds in the sky and every breath you take… that’s as long as you’ve found yourself a nice secluded spot away from the people. Remember that the beach is a public place, so you might get a few passers by stopping to watch, maybe some people talking and laughing loudly nearby and possibly music from nearby restaurants etc. This is why it’s best to do it when the beach is nice and empty, so set that alarm early and work it.

BALANCE

Doing yoga on the beach is pretty tough. You’ll find yourself having to readjust postures, falling our of poses and possibly getting a little frustrated. Be prepared for sinking and sliding feet and hands and just feeling generally off balance. On the plus side it’s a great way to work on your balance using your core to control your body. In terms of the frustration, use beach yoga as a way to let go of the ego, just move through postures that feel right and if you fall, just breathe through it and set yourself up again. If we don’t fall, we never learn.

So there you have the low-down on beach yoga. It’s always good to know what’s actually going on behind the scenes of those photos you see on Instagram and right here on my blog!
