Welcome to 2018 and my first blog post of the year!

I’m writing this blog post from the sofa of our cosy cottage in Wales after a hike to a cute lunch spot for my Dad’s birthday. Those of you who have followed me for a while will know I’m a super keen hiker and wherever I go – whether it’s in the UK or somewhere further afield – I’ll always be looking for a good hike to do.

Every year my family and I go out for a New Year’s Day hike, but this year I had a little extra challenge from the awesome Berghaus team. Rather than a short coastal hike, the #BerghausFirstFoot hiking challenge was to get in my first 10,000 steps of 2018, so we upped our game and hiked 6 miles, smashing our target and leaving us very excited for the homemade pizza that awaited us at the cottage! One of the beautiful things about hiking is that you create memories. I can’t remember many gym sessions, but I can definitely remember a lot of the stunning hikes I’ve completed in my life.

One of my intentions for 2018 is to give myself mindfully to each hike I do this year. Of course I’ll want to take photos, as I’m sure there will be some beautiful scenery, but rather than having my phone by my side snapping away all the time, I want to be more present, taking in everything I see. Our planet is a truly incredible place and you really don’t have to go far to see it… even those of you who live in the city. It doesn’t take long to find some greenery, hills and maybe even some water.

One of the other reasons I love hiking is because it’s FREE! With boutique gyms and fitness classes getting more expensive each year, it’s nice to know that there will always be a way of staying active without having to fork out money every month.

Seeing as Berghaus gave me a little hiking challenge for the new year, I’d like to pass it on to you! 😉 I challenge you to complete one 5-mile hike each month of 2018, which I’ll be doing too. You can pick how tough it is and where you go, just remember to breathe it all in and create some memories while you’re out there.

Here are some of my favourite hikes, in case you find yourself in any of these places this year.

Enjoy your year of hiking the great outdoors! If you have any hiking challenge recommendations, please comment below and let me know.
